Bowers Anxious to Get Started

Junior DaQuan Bowers says he is back to where he needs to be with the season opener just a few days away.

“I think I am back to where I need to be for the opening game of the season.  I missed about 15 days due to my father’s death.  It took me about a week to get back to where I need to be,” said Bowers.

North Texas brings a very talented running back to the Valley, Lance Dunbar.  DaQuan knows he will have the chance to make a lot of tackles.

“I can make a lot of tackles, but I can also get in trouble.  I have to play hungry and do my job,” said Bowers.

In the second year of coach Steele’s defense Bowers says he feels a lot more comfortable.

“A whole lot more comfortable than last year,” said Bowers.

After a hard offseason, DaQuan is ready to get the 2010 season underway.

“I am very anxious to get the season started.  It has been a long winter and a long summer.  I am looking forward to hitting someone other than my teammates,” said Bowers.

Monday Corico Hawkins challenged the defense to be the No. 1 rushing defense in the nation.  DaQuan liked that, but expects more from his defense.

“I told him we not only want to be the No. 1 rushing defense, but we need to be the No. 1 defense period.  Anything less is selling ourselves short.  We have that kind of talent,” said Bowers.
